after-the-post-office-re-imagining-new-services-new-contexts

After the post office is a product concept that is designed during the 3 years BA Hons. marketing course. This product design is an efficient concept design that will introduce new service contexts aiming to provide a service that can replace the conventional post offices. This concept follows few steps to accomplish its objective. The mobile segment is transported to the desired location by van and trolley is being used to move it. After reaching the destination, the mobile segment is pushed to the post box. The display monitor will show if the user would like to lock on with the box. This locking mechanism will make the box more secured.

James Salvidge own words :
In the UK today the introduction of new technology has meant that people have a far greater choice of how they access the post office services. Consequently, people are visiting post offices less, making the current service unsustainable. As a result the Post Office has already closed 500 post offices and has proposed the closure of 2500 more.

In the rural areas of the UK, the Post Office still plays an important economic and social role. So it is important that the services are not lost completely as this could make life for the elderly and poor increasingly difficult and also reduce the opportunities for social contact and communities to interact.

The project brief was to look at the role of the Post Office in a rural area and then to design a new service to be created in its place, one which was more sustainable and enabled the continuation of the postal services.

My concept was for a compact, automated post office unit which could be easily moved between villages, with each one being capable of supplying the services to around seven villages; saving materials and energy as fewer have to be produced

Following a timetable would allow the locations to be pre-arranged, the benefits of doing this are that larger villages, which have a greater need for the services, can be allocated more time and smaller villages less time. It also allows the people using the services to know when it will be situated in their village. As well as parcel and postal services, via a wireless internet connection it can provide users access to all the online post office services, including their insurance and bank services; allowing them to withdrawal their cash, pensions and benefits.

By constructing the mobile section out of relatively lightweight materials and by incorporating a trolley into the structure of the design, it will easily moved by the employees of the royal mail. To ensure it remains in location, via the screen, authorised employees will be able to activate the internal locking mechanism, which will securely lock it onto the post box; at the same time it will automatically lower itself to the ground, preventing it from being moved.

It would be a financially viable solution to problem facing the Post Office because it removes the need for a permanent structure and does not need an employee to supervise it. It can be entirely maintained by the Royal Mail, using their vans to transport it before their daily collection of post and parcels.

js-bach-chamber-music-hall-by-zaha-hadid-architects

The JS Bach Chamber Music Hall is a brilliant concept design installed at Manchester Art Gallery in order to house musical performances. The hall is built on a steel structure covered with a transparent fabric membrane suspended form the ceiling which divides and encloses the space aside from creating a stage, area for audience and passages for in and out of the hall. Above the stage, clear and acrylic panes are suspended, offering perfect disperse and reflect of sound. A massive ribbon swirls within the hall is carving out a visual and spatial response to the obscure relationships of Bach’s harmonies. Since the ribbon staggers above the performer and cascades into the ground along with wraps around the listeners, the original box shaped room is quite absent, rather, only fluid spaces are visible that are swelling, slipping and merging through one another. The design surely will enhance the diversity of Bach’s work via a coherent structural and formal logic integration.

From the website:
JS BACH / ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS CHAMBER MUSIC HALL AT MANCHESTER ART GALLERY FOR MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL.Zaha Hadid Architects have created a unique chamber music hall specially designed to house solo performances of the exquisite music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

A voluminous ribbon swirls within the room, carving out a spatial and visual response to the intricate relationships of Bach’s harmonies. As the ribbon careens above the performer, cascades into the ground and wraps around the audience, the original room as a box is sculpted into fluid spaces swelling, merging, and slipping through one another.

“The design enhances the multiplicity of Bach’s work through a coherent integration of formal and structural logic. A single continuous ribbon of fabric swirls around itself, creating layered spaces to cocoon the performers and audience with in an intimate fluid space.” said Hadid. The process of realizing the design involved architectural considerations of scale, structure and acoustics to develop a dynamic formal dialogue inseparable from its intended purpose as an intimate chamber music hall.

A layering of spaces and functions is achieved through the ribbon wrapping around itself, alternately compressing to the size of a handrail then stretching to enclose the full height of the room. Circulatory and visual connections are continually discovered as one passes through the multiple layers of space delineated by the ribbon.

The ribbon itself consists of a translucent fabric membrane articulated by an internal steel structure suspended from the ceiling. The surface of the fabric shell undulates in a constant but changing rhythm as it is stretched over the internal structure. It varies between the highly tensioned skin on the exterior of the ribbon and the soft billowing effect of the same fabric on the interior of the ribbon. Clear acrylic acoustic panels are suspended above the stage to reflect and disperse the sound, while remaining visually imperceptible within the fabric membrane.

Programmed lighting and a series of dispersed musical recordings activate the spaces between the ribbon outside of performance times. The installation is designed to be transportable and re-installed in other similar venues.

Pivotal to its function is the performance of the ribbon. It has been designed to simultaneously enhance the acoustic experience of the concert while spatially defining a stage, an intimate enclosure, and passageways. It exists at a scale in which it is perceived as both an object floating in a room as well as a temporal architecture that invites one to enter, inhabit and explore.

taipei-pop-music-center-features-an-ultimate-architecture-for-music

The Mario Bellini Architects have illustrated an innovative design idea for Taipei pop music center with a hill like structure that is connected through glass passage ways, making it an iconic landmark for the city and a range of views of landscape to the guests. The project combines all the green areas of the adjacent spaces into a single system and put direct relation with the city and protects it as a new house of music by featuring canyon shaped public open space that contains various functions of the entire composition space. The design will be able to attract plenty of people and generate creative context and make it an architecture that is dedicated to music for the city of Taipei.
